How does therapy (tutoring) work with The Dyslexic Group?

We do 1-on-1 tutoring to ensure there is full engagement in learning. We are a qualified dynamic male + female team which allows us to provide a comfortable space to ‘click’ with our clients, based on who they feel comfortable learning with.

How do you teach reading?

We utilize the Susan Barton Reading and Spelling System® which is an Orton-Gillingham based program – but not all students are ready to start it immediately. In specific cases if the student is not ready to start the Barton Reading and Spelling System® we will start the student on use the Lindamood-Bell® program called LiPS. This program is designed to help prepare students to enter an Orton-Gillingham based program. Our dyslexia tutors are also certified and trained in the Susan Barton Reading and Spelling System® and the LiPS program.

How do you teach writing? (For Dysgraphia)

People with dyslexia often have dysgraphia. Dysgraphia is a learning disability that affects handwriting and fine motor skills. It interferes with spelling, word spacing and general ability to put thoughts onto paper. During our tutoring session we use proven techniques to help students with their dysgraphia. Our tutors are certified and trained in Learning Without Tears® which provides excellent support for students having difficulty with handwriting.

How do you teach writing strategies for dyslexia?

A course which delves into the skills needed for writing using a range of proven methods to help develop organization, planning, and the structure of writing. We observe three specific areas: narrative, information, and opinion/argumentative writing, exploring, and implementing practical strategies to improve their efficiency and effectiveness. Furthermore, students are supported in learning to think critically and creatively to assist in the building of their confidence to construct strong and well-informed writing.

How do you teach math? (For Dyscalculia)

Many students with dyslexia can also struggle with math and math concepts. A dyslexic student may also have difficulty with math facts or memorizing multiplication facts and word problems. Dyslexics can often able to understand and do higher level math quite well but will have trouble explaining how they “got” to the correct answer. Since dyslexia is a processing disorder math does need to be taught using manipulatives that can visually represent and demonstrate math concepts. Math U See is an instructor-guided student centered intervention that allows students to confidently achieve fact mastery.

How many sessions per month?

Our typical structure is two (2) sessions per week at 50 minutes per session. This averages to 8.67 sessions per month.
